Yaoi… A little surprise for all of you though…

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  It was a hot day a few days before Christmas. Lights of all colors filled the skylights of Tokyo. Christmas carols rang everywhere. People in Santa hats walked around happily, carrying gifts and happiness. And Yuusuke was selling ramen like any ordinary days also secretly running his ‘In between World’s Business’ like no other.
  I on the other hand am here, attired in this fur coat I bought in Australia (It’s kangaroo skin, and it doesn’t help much in this cold weather), with a pen and paper, trying to get things sorted. What? You don’t know? Hmm… you’ll understand more as you soon get into this journal.
  Back to my point.
  His business was getting rather good lately. Not the ramen one, the secret one; people from all over Japan came to his little store to get autographs and souvenirs from Makai as Christmas presents.
  "Jingle bells, jingle bells… eh, Kurama? Genki o?" Yuusuke blinked as one of his friends came by. He should be happy yes, but the redhead had something in his mind that made the other one seemed worried.
  A few bystanders saw Kurama and started whistling. The redhead ignored them completely and took a seat. Yuusuke chortled. "Little Red riding hood having problems with big bad wolves?" The boy with dark green colored hair teased as he put a bowl of ramen in front of the other customer.
  Kurama gave a hearty smile. "I deal with things more dangerous than wolves…" he smiled warmly, temporarily shadowing his sorrow. Yuusuke gave him a glass of cold ice water. "Hora, something to soothe the throat and to spill it out. What is it, Kurama?" Yuusuke rested his head on one shoulder and winked.
  "I have gotten Christmas presents for everyone. But there’s one that I don’t know if I could give it out," Kurama smiled. Yuusuke raised his left brow. "Why is that, beautiful redhead?" he asked. Kurama thought for a while. "Well, since Makai doesn’t have phones and it’s summer time there…" Kurama regarded the cold ice weather in uptown Tokyo. "… There’s this particular fire demon whom I can’t seem to reach there… and since the pretty little present was for cooling things a bit in Makai for that particular demon, I don’t think I could get it sent," Kurama babbled on as Yuusuke made another ramen for another customer.
  Let’s get this straight. Yuusuke had been going out with Kurama for a while. No, no… don’t ask me how did that happened. That, I got in another journal, not this one. And don’t bother asking. Surprisingly, our friend on the other side didn’t know. That brat probably still thought that the redhead was still up to him. Well… things change, Master of the Evil Eye.
  When you don’t give a proper answer to something, absence DOESN’T make the heart grow fonder.
  That’s what happened to Kurama. Or as I can see it now, Yuusuke’s got hooked up with that redhead. What? Keiko? Eheh… let’s just make a short story on what happened to Keiko.
  As everyone knew, she got into University in the academic faculty. Yes, yes, I know there’s tons of guys there; another case of uncertain solutions. Our friend Yuusuke here asked our darling Keiko for her hand in marriage. Yep, everything was fine until one of Keiko’s University-mate come kneeling onto her and begged her hand in marriage instead. He doesn’t take no for an answer, threatening to kill both himself and Keiko if she did so.
  So, the couple decided they had to have some time off. Keiko followed the guy. No, not because she loved him, just because she would take care of him until he came out of his trauma. Why would she do that? He saved her life, twice even. And that’s another story I’ll keep aside.
  Back to Kurama-tachi.
  "Why not just hop in to Makai and tell Mukuro?" Yuusuke suggested. Kurama started a laugh. "Well, tried once… both Hiei and Mukuro were out somewhere. Waited for them two weeks and still no news. Came back after that. Missed you so," Kurama leered Yuusuke innocently. Yuusuke could just pee in his pants right then and there.
  "That’s bad," he stated flatly as he worked on another prawn ramen, which was ordered by another customer.
  "Anyway, darling… what did you get me for Christmas?" Yuusuke asked. Kurama blinked. "Do I look like I am going to tell you anything?" he asked. Yuusuke laughed. "Okay, maybe I’ll just have to wait for… 3 more days?" he guessed. "Chigau, 2 more. It’s past midnight," the redhead smirked.
  "You monkey," Yuusuke put the ramen into an empty bowl. "No, A fox," he grinned, sipping another sip of ice cold water. The cold sensation trailed though his throat. He could feel it numb its way down his stomach.
  "Nice coat," Yuusuke commented. Kurama grinned. "Hiei got me this, last Christmas…" Kurama trailed off into a silence. "It’s been a year hasn’t it?" Yuusuke asked the redhead. Kurama smiled and nodded. He had since saw the fire demon, not a word, no nothing from him. "Well, if he is for you, he’s yours. If he is not, he’s not," Kurama looked deeply into his glass of cold water.
  Yuusuke decided to change the topic a little. "So, what were you actually planning to do when you went to Mukuro’s palace?" Yuusuke asked. Kurama smiled. "Tell him," the redhead winked.
  "Tell him what?" Yuusuke asked again. "About us… and just to say hi. It’s been a while since I saw him. Planned to give him the invitation card," Kurama smiled. "Oh, the party at your house right?" Kurama shrugged. "Guess he’s not coming. Don’t bother even. Don’t even think he’s coming back to Ningenkai," a hint of disappointment could be clearly heard.
  Yuusuke sighed. He loved Kurama, as much as dear life. But if Kurama kept having all these memories about that fire demon, it wouldn’t work out. He hasn’t seen his darling kitsune for almost a month now, and he’s going to make it to good use.
  Yuusuke looked at his empty ramen packets, then his watch. "2.30 am. "I guess I should call it a night," he said as he started to pack things up. Kurama waited patiently for another 15 minutes for his lover to finish.
  Yuusuke put on his jacket and locked the chains. "All set… ikuzo!" he put his arms on Kurama’s shoulder and bother of them walked back.
  I crept along with them. Yes, still scribbling whatever they were doing. Holding hands, rubbing against each other, Yuusuke even stole a kiss from Kurama in one of the dark alleys they walk together and the list just goes on.
  You can say that I might be invisible. Yes maybe so, I’m just a lost soul hovering around. My youki is so weak Yuusuke can’t even sense it. Yes, took interest in Kurama, Hiei, Yuusuke and Kuwabara when I was in Reikai, waiting for my turn to be sentenced. I ran, couldn’t care less if I was to be dumped into hell or heaven. That can wait.
  Stop talking about me, I am now in front of the Minamino’s residence.
  Yuusuke and Kurama just walked in. I flew up the tree and watched as they ended up in Kurama’s room. The redhead was still talking while lying on Yuusuke’s stomach.
  "I think Christmas this year would be gorgeous," Kurama said under his breath. "Why?" Yuusuke asked, running his fingers through his brilliant scarlet hair. "My first Christmas with someone who loves me," was the sweet answer of the redhead.
  I sat there on the tree, admiring the love between those two. I sighed again, but then I felt something. A strong youki. I turned around.
  Hiei looked at the box in his hand. It was in a green and red box, with a pretty little red ribbon on top, as pretty as he was. God the ribbon reminded him of his hair, red and beautiful. It had been a year, and this year, he would have the courage to say it. This would be the year, the starting of life… with him.
  This whole year he had grew. Hiei you see before your eyes would be the new Hiei. The fire demon came closer to the home of his lover. He hoped the fox was still there waiting for him like last year. He was so engross in his thought until he found out that he had collided himself with a youkai. A very weak one indeed.
  "Kisama!" he scratched his nose. The youkai floated and crossed her arms. "Hiei-san, you don’t have eyes do you?" she snorted. Hiei blinked. "Who are you?" he asked. "Me? Just a youkai, don’t mind me," she smiled, her golden eyes shone against the moon.
  The fire demon was too occupied to kill the poor youkai and decided to just drop the matter and meet his fox. "Forget it," suddenly the girl said. "Forget what? I have Kurama’s present right here," he uttered. "I mean, forget about Kurama…" the girl said, her eyes wasn’t partly sad.
  "You… I didn’t think of killing you before this but…" the fire demon pulled out his katana. The girl silenced him with her index finger on the youkai’s lips. "Be silent, be a good youkai, and go look through the window quietly," she advised, Hiei frowned sourly. He didn’t want to look at what the girl told him to look at, but something inside told him otherwise.
  He crept silently to the window and eyed inside. He saw Kurama alright… on his bed, kissing and being kissed. Worse that it was his friend Yuusuke who was doing that to his fox. Hiei’s katana fell off his hands and it clinked somewhere at the bottom of the tree.
  The girl dragged him back to a safer position so he could have a talk with him. She liked it when she talks and someone listens. "Don’t blame Kurama, Hiei. I’ve been here a while to know what has happened. The fact that you left Kurama for a whole year and didn’t tell him to wait was a mistake. Don’t blame anyone for this, not truly your fault and not even his. Take it, Kurama is not yours. If he’s still yours, someday, somehow, something will happen and you two will be together. But if that day doesn’t come, he’s Yuusuke’s forever," the girl ended her speech.
  Hiei sighed and frowned. "But Yuusuke…" the girl smiled. "No buts Hiei…" the girl hushed him. Hiei nodded. "I will wait…" he said softly as his hand reached into his cloak. He bought out two boxes. One, a fancy red and green one, and the other, a box with sweet incense smell lingering over it.
  The girl watched as Hiei flitted down to the window downstairs. He put the two boxes among the other boxes under the Christmas tree in Kurama’s big living room as he did last year. She floated back higher as Hiei went up to Kurama’s window and knocked 3 times on it.
  The redhead scrambled around as someone opened his window and hopped in. The fire youkai put a small rose under the small Christmas tree in Kurama’s bedroom. He turned around, couldn’t even look at Kurama. "There are presents from Mukuro and me. The smelly one was from M… Mukuro," he said as he climbed the window. He sniffled once "Don’t open them until Christmas, Merry Christmas… Shuuichi Minamino," he uttered as he jumped out the window into the darkness.
  Kurama ran to the window. "Hiei! Come back! Hiei!!" he shouted. A sudden stab of pain in his heart could be felt so sharply. Inari-sama, it hurts!
  Yuusuke ran towards Kurama and hugged him. "Yuusuke," he cried. "I know… I know…" Yuusuke breathed in the soft scent of rose in Kurama’s hair. "I didn’t even get to say Merry Christmas to him," Kurama cried.
  Yuusuke smiled and tried to change the topic a bit. "Did you see him? He grew… into a fine young man," Yuusuke noticed Hiei’s height. He was unmistakably as tall as he was. The feature of his face was also leaner and more matured. "The Urameshi clan is just full of bishounens, I guess…" Yuusuke smiled and kissed Kurama’s forehead.
  Kurama closed his eyes…
  The girl saw Hiei flit into the darkness and followed the strong ki. Good thing Hiei decided to stop in one of the near forests. "Shit, you’re fast," she panted. "Leave me alone," Hiei wiped off his tears. "Maybe later…" she smiled. Then suddenly Hiei looked up. "Damn! I forgot!" he cursed again with fancy Makai curses. "What? About the confession paper?" she asked. Hiei frowned. "How did you know!?" he was alarmed.
  "I’m a youkai remember? I can go through anything," she smiled. Hiei sighed deeply and decided to go back to Kurama’s house to get that paper out. "… Even through your tiny heart there, Hiei. Leave it there… I told you, if he’s yours, he yours… Maybe you might consider joining them," she giggled as an evil idea popped in her head.
  Hiei looked at her and sighed. "Baka…"
  Minamino Shuuichi’s Journal…
  Midnight, 25th December… 04:00 a.m.
  Yes, I had a party earlier. It was nice. Nearly everyone came. I do mean everyone, even Yomi, Shura and Mukuro. Enki came and stopped by with Coco. It was perfect… no, nearly perfect. Why? Because my best friend didn’t show up, maybe he was upset. I’m afraid I can’t do anything…
  The sad part of the day was just now. We ended up opening each other’s presents at the stroke of midnight… found one with a fancy box and a red ribbon. It doesn’t have the name of the sender of it and I couldn’t recognize it. But the box was fancy and beautiful.
  After and urging look from everyone, I started to pull off the ribbon carefully. I could fell everyone tense under my delicate little fingers that were dancing around the ribbon.
  Finally, it’s off. I slowly open the box and there was a folded piece of paper. Of course I took it and unfolded it. The box was in someone else’s hand. I could hear them cooing and wowing at the contents, but my eyes just couldn’t care less as I read the first line…
To my darling sweet lovable kitsune… Kurama…
   It has been a year. Maybe when you read this,
  you’re able to see me already. Yes, I’ve grown haven’t I?
Yes, I have also become softer, if you can call me
that… or why in the hell would I write you this letter
which I know that you’d be reading in front of me and
everyone else in this party of yours. Although I don’t
know what it will be like, I bet this party would be great.
I can already imagine you and me, cutting those brown cakes
you love so much that’s full of dried fruits, eat Christmas
cookies, drink gyunyuu… Inari-sama, I don’t sound at all
like the old Hiei. You must be wondering why Inari? I have
been praying to your god as well. He kept you safe under
his eyes and I should thank him. Do you like the present?
It took me a year to do it. I guess the change that you
see in me now was from that tiny little present. As I work
on it every single day, I can fell myself growing, I can
see my self melting right under your scent, your taste,
your love most importantly. You must be wondering where
did I get all the tears from, right? Just to let you
know, I’ll shed tears for you everyday knowing that
I can’t see you, knowing that I can’t touch you. And
I mold it with the power of love, which I know you shower
unconditionally for me. And here, if I haven’t already
told you in my own words, I would like to have you
more than a best friend… Maybe I’m lame and late, but
I needed to be prepared… Itoshii, yariki nara ai…
kimi no totte da yo… eien ni ai shiteru…
                                         Kurama no aijin,
                                                 Jaganshi Hiei…
I looked up from that particular letter and held my hand out to reach for the thing that had been passed around to be awed. It was beautiful; right in my hand was the most beautiful fox made out of a hiruiseki. It’s big enough to compete with my pillow. The fire demon must have cried his tears dry to get this much or hiruiseki. And the youki he used to melt them and mold them into this piece of beauty was beyond my boundaries of rationality.
  Yes, the fire demon had grew… into a fine young man indeed as what Yuusuke said. I did realize. My heart jumped out of its place as soon as it saw the koorime. If under any other circumstances, I would be happy to let the fire demon back into my arms. The feel of a matured and older Hiei would be unbearable to just imagine. Having him finally love me back used to be my ultimate dream…
  Maybe he had loved me… Maybe I had loved him… But some things had to come to an end… The fire demon left without a word of promise… Now everything is too late… too late…
  Hiei, I am sorry…
