Hiei was lying on bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.  If he closed his eyes, he would recall the redhead's first and last night in that same room.  The night he had violated his best friend.  That was what triggered all the madness.  After that last encounter with Kurama, his world had turned upside down.  A single blood tear ran down Hiei's face.  He missed Kurama so much.  He remembered the day of Mukuro's death and Kurama had arrived with Yomi.  He had not realized how much he longed for the kitsune.  He thought he just missed his friendship, but now....  Hiei brushed impatiently at the tears and got up.  He had to find the redhead.  He must have him back at all cost.  He needed to apologize for his abrupt behavior.  He was willing to beg for the fox's love.

 "H-Hiei...  Hiei...."

Keshiki frowned.  He had been watching the sleeping redhead.  The youko slept fitfully.  Again and again he would utter that name.  Sometimes Kurama's voice was gentle, tender even, then the redhead would whimper.  Keshiki hurriedly left his sleeping place and cradled the redhead, making soothing noises and rocking the redhead back and forth.  Kurama awakened and stared straight into Keshiki's eyes.  At that moment, Keshiki realized that the redhead was hurting.  The youkai hugged the kitsune, thankful that Kurama was allowing him the tender gestures.  Keshiki smoothed the silky red strands on Kurama's face and stared down at the sad, melancholy face.  Oh how he wanted to take him there and then.  Instead, he placed Kurama's head on his lap and dropped a tender kiss on the smooth brow.  The kitsune sighed and closed his weary eyes, rubbing them gently with the back of his hands.     Keshiki smiled at the childish gesture.  When he sensed that Kurama had settled comfortably, the youkai spoke very softly.

"Who is Hiei?"

The redhead stiffened and held his breath.

"H-how?"

"I heard you whisper his name while you were sleeping."  Keshiki murmured.

The kitsune's lips tightened.

"You can trust me."  Keshiki added, unaware how those words inflamed the wound in Kurama's heart.

"H-he was my closest friend.  My best friend."  Kurama began.

"Go on."  Keshiki encouraged.

"He... he betrayed me."  Kurama said hoarsely.

Keshiki bent and kissed the trembling mouth.  Kurama responded in turn and Keshiki moaned.  This was the first time in the many times he had kissed Kurama that he got a response.  Kurama was kissing him back!

Keshiki ended the kiss reluctantly and stared at the sleepy emerald eyes.

"Go back to sleep."  Keshiki smiled.  Kurama closed his weary lids again.  Keshiki thought about what the redhead told him.  So--Hiei was his best friend.  He himself knew how painful it was to be betrayed.  His twin had done that to him.  But Kurai was a blood relation, this Hiei....  Keshiki murmured on the kitsune's ear.

"Do you love Hiei?  I wonder...." Keshiki hurt at this sudden suspicion.

"Hai."  The redhead very softly murmured and sighed, pushing his slight frame more closely against Keshiki's.

"Ku-Kurama...."  Keshiki stared in pained shock at the kitsune.  He knew now that he could never have Kurama.  The kitsune was in love with that Hiei!
