~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kurama
panted. He had made sure
that Yusuke would not be able to find him.
He needed some time to be alone, reassess his life. The kitsune sat on a big rock near a stream and stared back
at his sorrowful expression. What
was the matter with his life? All
he wanted was to live contentedly as a reincarnated youko with his
beloved kaasan. Repay the
ningenkai and reikai for his second life with his service as a member of
the reikai tantei. Yes,
that was all he ever wanted. Then
he had to fall for the fire demon.
The second meeting with Yomi, then Yusuke....
Kuso! He didn't want
this. Something cold
touched Kurama's heart. The
youko unconsciously transformed into his fox demon form.
The fox's tails flicked back and forth in agitation.
He knew he needed to re-establish the peace and calm that he
thought had become routine in his human life, before Hiei, before the
makai tournament. But
first, he needed a good swim. The
youjko turned his gaze on the clear stream. Kurama
felt considerably refreshed as he brushed the tangles of his rapidly
drying silver hair that reached to his waist.
He had come to a decision and he wasn't about to waste any time.
Swiftly the fox demon searched for the temple of the fox god,
Inari . He
found it at the heart of the deepest forest, adorned with multitudes and
varieties of lush flora, wasting no time, the kitsune bowed down in
front of the shrine to invoke the god. "Lovely
powerful Inari, sweep away the lesser, shut it out of range leave
the beauty and the light bright and clean and fair, Remove
all vibrations of misery and despair.
Leave this place and these fine things fresh, and bright and
pure, holy as your own fine self, bright, complete and sure Lovely,
powerful Inari, our thanks to you we give That
from your sweeping power in beauty may we live."
"WHY
DO YOU SEEK ME, MY SON?" A
voice spoke on his ears "I-I
wish to seek your help...." The
kitsune bowed lower. "WHAT
IS IT THEN?" "P-please
do not think I'm being ungrateful, but these past few days in my life
had made me reconsider...." "WHY
DO YOU HESITATE? DO YOU
REALLY WISH FOR WHAT YOU ASK? PERHAPS
THIS ISN'T REALLY MEANT TO BE, KURAMA...." "N-no.
I want it. Please
Inari, grant me my wish." Kurama
entreated, tears beginning to well up in his eyes. "VERY
WELL, MY SON. LOOK AT
ME." Kurama
looked up as a blinding light bathe his body.
Then he felt himself losing consciousness. *************** "Shuuichi,
Shuucihi." The voice
called softly, as an equally soft and tender kiss touched his cheek.
Shuuichi moaned and opened one emerald eye. "Good
morning, kaasan." "Good
morning, son." Shiori
smiled sweetly at Shuuichi and bent down to kiss him again. This time, on the forehead. "Headache
gone?" She asked in a
concerned voice. "Hai.
I feel like eating a horse today."
The redhead said enthusiastically. Shiori
tapped her son's nose and ruffled his short red hair. "Come
on then sleepy head." She
laughed as she helped her son up. Shuuichi
stood up and stretched as Shiori gazed up at him proudly.
He was too grown up already at 15.
And such a fine--no gorgeous looking one too with brains and
manners to match. "Ano,
kaasan. I need to get
dressed." Shuuichi
mumbled, blushing. "Hai.
I'll wait for you downstairs."
She smile and sighed. Yes
her son was definitely growing up. *************** Shuuichi
hurriedly took a shower, got dressed and gazed wonderingly at his face.
He felt something missing. What
was it? He turned his face left and right and touched his short hair.
It felt weird. "Shuuichi,
you're going crazy." He
reprimanded himself and chuckled, going down to the kitchen to kaasan. He
got himself to school, a few blocks away from his house.
He loved walking, sniffing the clean air, inhaling the scents of
flowers and listening to the rustles of trees.
The greenery everywhere increased the emerald glints of his eyes.
"Shuuichi!"
A chorus of voices called at him.
Shuuichi looked ath the direction of the voices and smiled at a
throng of six girls. "Ohayou
gozaimasu, minna-san." Shuuichi
and smiled enchantingly. The
girls squealed, ready to pounce on him when another voice called. "Ku--I
mean, Shuuichi, Shuuichi, over here!"
The girls and Shuuichi turned to see a blue-haired girl waving
frantically. "Who
is she, Minamino?" One
of the girls asked. Shuuichi
sweatdropped. "I-I
don't know. I haven't seen
her either." "
We could get rid of her for you," another girl interceded. "N-no,
but maybe she needs help." Kurama
said as he excused himself and went slowly to the blue-haired girl. "Isn't
he dreamy? The girls sighed in unison and proceeded to the school
entrance. *************** "Ku-Kurama?
What happened to your hair?"
Botan asked incredulously. She
thought she'd never see the day Kurama would cut his hair.
"I'm
sorry, but I'm afraid I don't know you.
Why do you call me Kurama? Perhaps
you mistook me for someone else." The redhead asked curiously. Botan
sweatdropped, confused at Kurama's behavior. "Ano...you
don't remember me?" The
ferry girl asked incredulously. 'No,
I don't." Shuuichi
answered emphatically, then smiled sweetly at Botan.
"Do you need any help?" "N-No."
Botan gulped as the redhead looked at his watch. "Um,
I think I'd better go. I'm
already late." Shuuichi
smiled again and murmured "A record broken...."
The redhead ran as fast as he could to the school premises. "Hey,
Kurama, matte yo!" Botan
called. What the heck was
wrong with him? The ferry
girl asked herself, scratching her head. *************** Shuuichi
sat on his class attentively, then he frowned when he remembered the
name the blue-haired girl exclaimed at him. Kurama....
Shuuichi shook his head, returning his undivided attention to the
sensei.
