Kurama sat silently with Yomi.  Once in a while, the blind youkai would turn in the youko's direction and smile a secret smile.  He felt lightheaded and he had reason to be.  It had been a long time since he saw the redheaded youko/ningen in his territory after the makai tournament.  It was as if Kurama as deliberately avoiding him.  Not that he had done anything to ward off the youko.  On the contrary, he had done everything in his power to make the youko comfortable with him again.  He wanted to relive the closeness before Kurama reincarnated in a ningen body, before he had been blinded by Kurama's paid assassin.  He wanted to forget the bitterness, the anger, the feeling of betrayal.  He wanted Kurama close to him period.  He rationalized that maybe he had these feelings because he missed the old times and best of all the comradeship of the youko.  Yomi sighed softly as Kurama unexpectedly turned his head and caught him looking at him.  The youko's emerald eyes widened a little, asking a question.  Yomi waved his hand in dismissal and smiled at the redhead.  His next action, however, made the youko speechless.  Yomi took his hand again in his and for the rest of the journey it stayed there.

Hiei eyed the many guests pouring into Mukuro's castle.  The fire demon's ki was very erratic.  His crimson eyes looked hazily from one arriving youkai to the next.  Nodding briefly to those who spoke to him, otherwise the youkai remained silent.  Hiei's heart felt like breaking.  This was  the day.  The final day to say farewell to the second woman who had touched his life and moved his heart.  The first one was his sister, the next and probably the last was his master, teacher and friend, Mukuro.  No.  Mukuro was more than a friend to him, but they never had any physical relationship.  All those years, Hiei had trained with Mukuro, he had discovered how beautiful she was despite the somewhat ghastly physical appearance, at least that was what the other half of her body was.  Mukuro had cared for him, gave him new meaning to his already meaningless, purposeless youkai existence.  She made him live and realize that life had so much more to offer.  She had never even tried to force him to stay in the makai.  She never had to.  He was more than willing to spend his youkai life with her, not knowing that the woman's life was only a little longer than Raizen's.  Hiei closed his eyes tightly.  He could feel the sting of tears at the back of his eyes.  When he opened them again, he perceived Yusuke and Kuwabara coming toward him.  His two former teammates gaped at him.

"H-Hiei...."  Yusuke managed to squeak. "You've grown...."

Kuwabara merely contemplated the fire demon silently.

Hiei stood up from where he had been sitting on the throne and jumped next to Yusuke..  The fire demon had grown as tall as Kuwabara.

"Hn.  Is this all you came for?  To ask me a stupid question?"  Hiei glared daggers at Yusuke.

"Taller, but definitely as snotty as ever."  Kuwabara rolled his eyes.

Hiei merely grunted as Yusuke sweated it out.

"Anyway, thanks for coming."  The fire demon said softly, the beginnings of a smile on his otherwise weary face at the stunned expressions of his two friends.

A youkai came in and bowed to the fire demon.

"Lord Hiei, his highness Lord Yomi has arrived."
