"Kurai...."  The redhead said angrily.  He should have known.

"Well, my pretty.  It looks like it's you and I again, huh?"  Kurai chuckled and bent down to lick Kurama's tightly closed mouth.

"Kurai let him go!"  Keshiki shouted.  The youkai's right arm began to glow with red fire.

"You want him, brother?"  Kurai taunted as he bit on the soft lips.  Kurama's green eyes glinted gold, glittering coldly up at Kurai.

Keshiki's body shook with anger, watching his twin brother licked the blood from Kurama's bruised mouth.  The redhead had remained immobile at the whole proceeding.  Keshiki knew how the redhead was hurting, but the redhead had a stubborn pride too.  He would never show any sign of pain or any other weakness.

"You know, I've decided that if I can't conquer makai, then I'll settle for second best.  I'll take the redhead with me.  Even when I'm gone, I'm happy to think that you will never best me ever, Keshiki!"

"You sick bastard!  Keshiki said grimly, body tensing as Kurai started to concentrate his energy on his left arm.

Kurai positioned the red ball of energy on Kurama's chest.

"If I die, you die with me."  He murmured to the redhead.

"Your journey ends here.  Goodbye Kurai."  Kurama said as Kurai struck his chest with the fiery energy.   A huge explosion followed.  Keshiki screamed as body parts flew everywhere.

"KURAMAAA!"

Keshiki tried hard to avoid gagging as he searched for Kurama.  The war was almost over, but his heart had only started it's mad and fearful beating.  Kurama... what happened to Kurama?  A soft moan attracted Keshiki's attention. The youkai ran swiftly toward an the injured redhead.

"Kurama!"  Keshiki tore a piece of cloak to cover the youko's wounded chest.  The redhead coughed.

"H-how did you manage to survive that?"  Keshiki asked in wonder, smoothing the red locks.  Then he remembered Kurama's parting words to Kurai.

"Kurama, you had powers? I thought you were human?"

Kurama coughed.  "No human can survive this long."  The redhead smiled faintly.

"What kind of creature are you, Kurama?"

Kurama felt very dizzy.  He knew what was about to happen.  His weak human body was giving way to his stronger, more resilient form.

"I-I think you're about to find out."  The youko said weakly.  "Stay away from me."  Kurama said faintly as a thick cloud of smoke enveloped his whole body and encompassing the wrecked surrounding.  The demon fox was about to be awakened.  Keshiki gasped and stared in shock at the sudden change in the atmosphere.  It was difficult to see what had happened to Kurama, but he felt the tightening of his stomach as he sensed a strong presence emerging.  There was a crackle of black energy and the smoke swirled in circles.  Keshiki perceived an outline of a fox.  The smoke cleared at last and Keshiki  stared in shock at a handsome, silver demon fox.  The youko was licking the bloodstains on his hands, long silver hair caressing his back down to his waist.

"Ku-Kurama?"

Clear, golden eyes looked up at him.  Keshiki trembled.  He had never seen such a sensual and beautiful creature except for Kurama.  Keshiki shook his head, but this was Kurama!  The youkai took slow tentative steps toward the kitsune.  Kurama eyed his progress with a small smile on his sensual lips.

"I-is it really you?"  Keshiki asked wonderingly, holding a strand of silky, silver hair.

"Hai."  The youko smiled reassuringly at the stunned youkai.

"B-but...."  Keshiki scratched his head.

"It's a long story."  Kurama said.  "I need to get back to the makai, Keshiki."  The youko murmured and eyed the youkai steadily.

Keshiki sighed and nodded.

"I'll come with you."

"No.  You have a kingdom to think of now.  This land deserves creatures as respectable and honorable as you are.  You'll make a great ruler."  Kurama said so sincerely that Keshiki blushed.

The youkai opened his palm and concentrated, until a shimmering opening in space widened gradually.

The youko turned to him in a huff.

"You mean to say, the doorway out of this dimension is practically in your hands?"

"Hai."  It was Keshiki's turn to smile reassuringly at the youko.

"All three off us,  Kurai, Fuyu and I, are capable of opening a portal to the makai."

"Why didn't you say so in the first place?"  The youko asked exasperatedly.

"My own reasons."  Keshiki murmured.  Kurama snorted and moved to enter.

"There's something else, Kurama."   Keshiki called back.

The youko turned back to Keshiki and almost bumped noses with the youkai.  Keshiki held the kitsune fast on the waist.

"I have my reasons... and you are all of them."  Keshiki whispered and kissed the youko hungrily on the mouth.  "I'll come after you, Kurama after I've seen to all of these."  He said and pushed the astounded youko into the portal.  "Farewell, Kurama.  But not goodbye."  Keshiki said as the portal disappeared from view.

Kurama stood stock still at the center of the makai forest.  His mind had reeled at Keshiki's boldness and he was deeply confused.  He had not done anything to discourage Keshiki's affection for him.  In fact, he acted like he was liking it a lot.  Was he attracted to Keshiki?  The youko raised a finger to his lips.  His mouth still tingled from that kiss.  Unconsciously, Kurama transformed back into his human form.  The wound on his chest had healed faster than he thought.  He had not walked very far when he sensed familiar youkis coming his way.  The youko turned and came face to face with Hiei, Yomi and Yusuke.
