Kurama sat on a park, knees drawn up to his chest.  The redheaded kitsune rocked himself back and forth.  His mind still in turmoil as crystal tears rolled down his soft, clear cheeks.  Scenes of his last encounter with Hiei rolling over and over again.  Kurama sobbed more earnestly.  Hiei... his best friend.  Even now, when he was hurting himself, he could only think of the fire demon, how it must be for him.  Since Mukuro died, the fire demon was too deeply affected, too emotionally and mentally involved with Mukuro.  He couldn't entirely blame the half-koorime for what he did.  But whatever provoked it?  It was just too bad Kurama was too accessible at that time.  Hiei had vented his rage at him.

"No, he never meant to hurt me."  Kurama whispered, desperately wanting to believe it.  Hiei was the best friend he ever had for a long time.  True he had Yusuke, Kuwabara and the rest  who had touched his life, but Hiei... was different.  His feelings for Hiei were stronger, more sacrificial.  He... no he couldn't admit it, not even to himself.  He is Kurama.  The only person he had fully given his heart to was his kaasan.  He intended to keep it that way.  After a while, the redhead stood up, brushing remnants of tears on his face.  He had to go meet the public.

Koenma sucked furiously on his fukumen and eyed the 'former' three reikai tantei wearily.  He frowned.

"Where is Hiei?"

Kurama paled, although Koenma was not addressing him but Botan.  The blue-hair ferry girl sweatdropped.

"I called him up already.  Maybe he's busy, what with the kingdom and all...."  She trailed off as a black shadow settled on the room.  Hiei settled himself near Yusuke and secretly looked over at Kurama who was at that moment, very interested at Koenma's floor design.

"Right."  Koenma nodded and started talking.  He had just gotten a glimpse of Yusuke's bored expression with an accompanying yawn.  He was not in the mood to bicker with Yusuke.

"We have juts discovered that a demon has just appeared in the makai bent on making mischief.  We don't have any name yet, but apparently he has the power to change shape...."

"A shape shifter...."  Kuwabara interceded while the young spirit demigod glared at him.

"Great!  So how are we suppose to know if it's him?"  Yusuke sighed irritably.

"Well...."  Koenma sweatdropped and clenched his small fist.  "There is a bit of a problem."

"NANI?"  Yusuke asked.   This demon was getting on his nerves.

Koenma turned to Kurama.

"I strongly advise you to camouflage your youko aspect."

Kurama looked up from his detailed study of the floor and blinked at Koenma.  Koenma sighed and continued.

"This youkai has a penchant for a youko body.  We have not yet discovered yet for what reason, but please, be extra careful."  Koenma said transferring his gaze from Kurama to Yusuke, then to Hiei and Kuwabara.

Kurama remained silent.  Hiei stared at the fox, a worried frown came and went just as quickly on his face.  Yusuke cracked his knuckles.

"If this meeting's over, I'd like to take a sample of that youkai now."

Kuwabara bashed him on the head.

"Ittai!"  Yusuke glared at Kuwabara.

"That's for being such a braggart."  The orange-hair young man snorted.  Botan quickly interceded.

"OK, you guys, let's go."

"Thanks to you guys in advance.  I really appreciate this."  Koenma flopped on his chair wearily.

"No problem."  Yusuke grinned at the toddler, giving a thumbs-up sign.

"Hiei...."  Koenma called at the new makai ruler.  The fire demon turned to Koenma, raising an eyebrow.

"I would understand if you don't want to go."

"Hn.  I'll decide what's important to me."  The now taller fire demon grunted before flitting away.
